Hillsboro, OR:  Tuesday, the Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) released The Washington Commission Environmental Scorecard.  This is the 2nd Environmental Scorecard that OLCV has produced, scoring the Washington County Commissioners on their environmental voting record.

Overall, the commission scored better than they did just two years ago.  The average score was 80% significantly higher than the 58% average scored last time.  Commissioner Dick Schouten scored 100% for his second consecutive perfect score.

“Dick Schouten is the voice of environmental responsibility on the commission,” said Keith Quick, Washington County Organizer for OLCV, “He again demonstrated strong leadership in protecting the County’s legacy of farmland, open spaces and water quality.”

Commissioners received the following scores:

Tom Brian, Chair:                     80%                           Roy Rogers, District 3:      75%

Dick Schouten, District 1:        100%                           Andy Duyck, District 4:     75%

John Leeper, District 2:           100%                           Commission Overall:      80%

Desari Strader, District 2:         50%

The Scorecard evaluates the environmental voting records of the Washington County Commissioners over the previous two year’s.  There are 5 votes included in the 2008 Scorecard.  Votes included have a significant impact on the environment and were chosen by a team of experts from the environmental community.
