OLCV e-bulletin: Three special reasons to give thanks
Three special reasons to give thanks
Many of us will feel the effects of the economic downturn this year, but this Thanksgiving Oregonians still have plenty of reasons to give thanks.
When you sit down to Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow and reflect on everything you're thankful for, remember all of the things that make Oregon such a great place to live: our farms, forests, beautiful coast, all of the unique places that make Oregon so special Mt. Hood, Crater Lake, Steens Mountain, to name a few.
And then take a special moment to give thanks for this year's election results. Oregonians have elected pro-environment leaders, from President of the United States to Mayor of Eugene, to protect Oregon's special places now and for our future generations.
- The Oregon House will be decidedly more pro-environment next session with the victories of five OLCV targeted legislative candidates. OLCV is preparing now to help enact the environmental community's priorities during the 2009 Legislative session. We'll be in Salem every day fighting to protect our natural legacy for our children and grandchildren.
- We elected Jeff Merkley to the US Senate. Merkley has a 95% lifetime environmental score in the Oregon legislature. As a US Senator, he will continue to fight for stronger legislation to fight global warming and increase investment in clean, renewable energy.
- We elected Barack Obama our next President. During his campaign, Obama promised to make a green energy future a priority. He has a plan to create thousands of green jobs, increase investment in clean, renewable energy and take immediate steps to combat global warming.

Show your thanks and help OLCV
At OLCV, we work hard year round to make sure our elected leaders take responsibility to protect the beautiful, special places that surround us in Oregon.
This Thanksgiving, why not show your thanks and support by becoming a sustainable member to OLCV?
Remember Brady and Natalie? Last year they became sustainable members of OLCV, finding this the easiest way to budget their donations and the most effective way for them to support OLCV.
“It’s easy, our membership never lapses, and I never have to mail in a check,” says Natalie.

How much difference can electing one person really make?
- A few citizens going up against an entrenched bureaucracy
- Lawyers using the state's open records law to get at the truth
- Bad guy actors who could only see profit in a natural wonder
Sounds like the next Hollywood blockbuster. But this story played out right here in Oregon. Read more on this gripping election tale.
The solemn expression on her young face, gazing out over the vast ocean before her, speaks volumes to me. This experience must be protected and provided for all generations to come.
