OLCV e-bulletin: OLCV Endorsements, My OLCV and job opportunities

Endorsements updates

OLCV announced eight endorsements this week - including endorsements for Oregon State Senate, Oregon House, Benton County Commission and Bend City Council.

Will Ordinary Oregonians Fight Back?

Oil-industry backed FreedomWorks, headed by former Texas Congressman Dick Armey,

announced earlier this week that they they're spending $1 million in Oregon in 2008 to combat “anti-energy extremists.”

Of course, they define groups like OLCV as “anti-energy.” They say their campaign will expose "how anti-energy radicals are opposed not just to energy development but to our modern way of life."

You can help us defeat this deception. Find out what you can do now.

My OLCV

Dawn Grafe is member of OLCV’s Lincoln County Steering Committee and resides in Toledo Oregon. She is the manager of Lucky Cluck Farms, a chicken cooperative on the central coast.

Frustrated by the damaging effects of factory farms on our environment and the uncertainty of where her food was coming from, Dawn decided to raise her own chickens. By raising the chickens herself, she knew her eggs were laid by local, grass-fed, happy chickens that enjoyed the freedom to roam under the sun.

Her independent venture soon grew into a thriving chicken cooperative – housing up to 25 chickens - that not only promotes sustainable living but has transformed strangers into friends as Dawn discovered many residents in the area share her concerns and desire to buy and eat locally. Not only that, members share the responsibility of chicken care and maintenance.

Are you considering raising chickens of your own? Learn more about Lucky Cluck Farms over on their website luckycluckfarms.com.

Would you like to eat local, but raising your own chickens is not an option for your lifestyle or location?

Visit eatwild.com to find local farms that supply all-natural, delicious, grass-fed products.

Summer vacations in Oregon's backyard?

With travel costs rising, we’ve heard a lot about folks taking their family vacations a little closer to home this summer.
What about you? Did you vacation in Oregon instead of taking a trip out of state? Did you hike in the Steens or raft down the Deschutes River? Maybe you packed the family into the car and headed to Mt Hood?

Tresa & her boyfriend, Ted Deli, at Lava Butte Cinder Cone

If you have a great photo of your family vacationing in Oregon’s beautiful backyard, please send it in with a brief description of where you were, who you were with and why you chose this particular location.

We may use your photo in a future issue of e-bulletin, on our website or in one of our printed publications. The bigger the file size, the better!

Send your photos to Tresa, OLCV’s E-bulletin editor, at tresa@olcv.org.

Question: How many gallons of water a year are the Texas energy speculators with NorthernStar asking Oregon’s Water Resources Department for the right to take from the Columbia River, free of charge, to operate their Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal?
Answer: 15 billion gallons

In a report reviewing proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, the Oregon Department of Energy found that LNG terminals would provide gas that is more expensive and more polluting than domestic national gas.
