Official statement from Jon Isaacs, OLCV Executive Director, on the results of the Metro President race
Portland, OR—With results still rolling in, it seems clear that Bob Stacey is headed into the runoff for Metro President. Stacey is a longtime environmental champion who has worked to protect both the Metro region and the state’s natural legacy. He understands that creating jobs and protecting the environment are both paramount to Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington county voters—and are not mutually exclusive.
Stacey’s strong leadership and vision for the Metro region earned him OLCV’s sole Metro President endorsement in January. We look forward to continuing to campaign for Bob until his victory on November 2.
At the helm of Metro, Stacey will protect the region's forests, farms and wetlands from sprawl as the region grows by putting new jobs and housing in the communities we've already built. Further, Stacey will be decisive on transportation issues that affect our quality of life.
Stacey’s resume exemplifies a lifetime commitment to regional environmental issues in a variety of capacities. He led the campaign to pass Ballot Measure 49 in 2007 and served as policy adviser to Governor Roberts when the Western Bypass Freeway project was terminated. As the City of Portland’s planning director, he led the adoption of an environmental overlay for riparian and upland forest and habitat. Stacey left his most recent post, as executive director for 1000 Friends of Oregon, in September.
Voters know that actions speak louder than words, and that’s why Stacey already has the trust of tri-county voters who care about a healthy future for the region.
OLCV has endorsed nearly 75 candidates for the 2010 election cycle, and targeted several key primary races around the state. For a full list of OLCV’s 2010 endorsements, visit www.olcv.org/endorsements2010.
The Oregon League of Conservation Voters passes laws that protect our natural legacy, elects pro-environment candidates, and holds all of our elected officials accountable.

Protection of remaining intact wilderness for its intrinsic value to all living inhabitants is as noble and worthy a goal as any development could possibly be. That's why we support organizations such as OLCV and our political representatives who work hard to protect Oregon's natural legacy.
