Who will be OLCV's Volunteer of the Year?

March 31, 2011

As we get closer to OLCV's Annual Celebration for the Environment, things at OLCV HQ are getting pretty exciting. We're making a video, lining up a DJ, selling tickets and tables... and we're getting closer to announcing the 2010 Katy Daily Volunteer of the Year!

Hundreds of OLCV volunteers worked across Oregon in 2010. (Pictured: volunteers at one of OLCV's Enviro Calls for Kitz nights.)They canvassed and called voters for OLCV-endorsed candidates, raised money for OLCV PAC, assisted with office and database tasks, and spread the word about OLCV to friends, family and neighbors. OLCV simply couldn't do the work that we do without our vounteers--- Every single one has our gratitude.

But only one can be the Volunteer of the Year. This year, we've nominated three very different volunteers. Each has taken a different path to get here, but all three have the same commitment to protecting what we love about Oregon. Meet our nominees:

Evann Remmington

Just more than a year ago Marion County was going through a bit of a rough patch and OLCV was looking for strong leaders to help re-build OLCV's chapter there. Enter Evann, an emerging leader in Oregon's environmental community. In the last year, Evann led efforts to bring together OLCV members and elected officials for Marion County's wildly successful first annual OLCV BBQ Cook-Off. As a small business owner, she knows how important new partners and relationships can be, Evann is always on the look out to help OLCV find its next new friend. Some have called Evann the spark that keeps the OLCV Marion County chapter motivated and inspired for the next thing. Read more about Evann.

Billy Don Robinson

We first met Billy Don at OLCV's 2010 Campaign to Win training and we must have done something right because we saw him working hard on the campaigns of several OLCV-endorsed candidates after that. Billy Don immediately got going volunteering to support Measure 76, but that wasn't enough for him. While helping protect Oregon's water, parks and wildlife, Billy Don started to call weekly for Bob Stacey, OLCV's endorsed candidate for Metro President, and was seen in Washington County supprting candidates there. He also spent hours recruiting volunteers. Read more about Billy Don.

Jan Wilson

Jan earned a nomination this year for her contiuing commitment to helping OLCV grow and succeed. Jan served on OLCV's Lane County Steering Committee for more than ten years. Jan left the steering committee last year, but spent countless hours working with OLCV-endorsed candidate for Lane County Commission Pat Riggs Henson. Post-election, Jan has stayed engaged helping the Lane County Steering Committee during their strategic planning process as well as helping recruit new OLCV members during March Membership MadnessRead more about Jan.
