The West Eugene EmX Extension: a Panel Discussion

October 26, 2011

At 6:00PM on Monday, November 7, Joshua Skov, Bob Macherione and Mia Nelson, will offer differing views regarding the West Eugene EmX Extension project. Following their presentations, all three guests will be available for questions. This event is intended to help educate the community and address misconceptions regarding the project.

The West Eugene EmX project is a planned extension of the EmX system, a Bus Rapid Transit system with routes in Eugene and Springfield, run by Lane Transit District (LTD). The West Eugene project would extend the route down West 11th Avenue to Commerce Street.

Joshua Skov is one of two owners of Good Company, a local environmental consulting firm, which has done a substantial amount of work in the transportation field, including: work for two state Departments of Transportation, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Transportation Research Board. Skov is an OLCV State Board Member, and a member of the City of Eugene's Sustainability Commission, which acts as a policy advisory body for City Council and the City Manager. He is also a member of the EmX Steering Committee.

Bob Macherione is spokesman for Our Money Our Transit, a local transit watchdog group interested in sustainable bus transportation for Lane County. Macherione has been an employer and business owner in Eugene for 29 years, and brings a private sector view to the conversation of public transit management.

Mia Nelson is the Willamette Valley Advocate for 1000 Friends of Oregon. She is also a Realtor and co-owns a construction and residential subdivision development company. She has a keen interest in the way that transportation infrastructure affects land use patterns, and believes EmX could catalyze mixed use re-development in the West 11th corridor.

"I look forward to participating in a community discussion on such an important topic. Our climate and energy futures hang in the balance, and our near-term decisions on land use and transportation are critical." Joshua Skov
