Election excitement in Washington County

There may no more exciting place to be this election year than Washington County. With three seats on the Washington County Commission and the Metro Presidient race up for grabs, 2010 Washington County is shaping up to be the place. Read more on the OLCV Blog.

Here'a look at three Washington County Commission candidates you should vote for on May 18.

Long time champion, Dick Schouten, (pictured here at Crater Lake) is running to lead the county into the future as Chair of the Washington County Commission. Schouten has long been an advoacte for growing neighborhoods in ways that keep the economy strong while protecting Washington County's quality of life. Schouten has been a real advocate for the issues while serving as the District 1 representative on the commission. Thank him by signing up to volunteer to help support OLCV's efforts to elect him chair this year.

While having Schouten leading the commission would be an amazing thing for Washington County, he can't do the work alone. That is why we are happy to introduce you to our candidates for District 2 and District 4. Amazingly both are farmers, both are named Greg, and strong advocates for smart land use policies that benefit all of our neighbors in Washington County.

Greg Malinowski runs a farm with his brother in Washington County and advocates for his neighbors in District 2 on policies that will help them flourish in a growing Washington County.

Greg Mecklem raises Alpacas on his Helvetia farm and when he isn't working with his animals or making sure his solar array is powering the farm, Mecklem is working to make sure that sprawl doesn't destroy the County's valuable farm and forest land.

Bob Stacey for Metro President

OLCV took the step and endorsed a true leader and visionary on environmental issues, Bob Stacey. Stacey is the former executive director of 1000 Friends of Oregon and has dedicated his entire career to protecting Oregon’s natural legacy. Some of you may have even received phone calls from our organizer, Anna Gilbert, working on Stacey's campaign to volunteer in one of our phonebanks. Sign up for a phonebank!

Stay updated and get involved

OLCV will be busy working to support all of these candidates over the coming weeks with canvasses and phonebanks.
