Help Shape the Future of our Region
April 12, 2010
The race for Metro President and Washington County Commission Chair give voters in Washington County a rare opportunity to elect two pro-enviroment leaders in critical races.
Dick Schouten for County Commission Chair
The stakes couldn’t be higher this election as Washington County residents will choose who will be at the helm of the Washington County Commission. The outcome of this election will not only shape the future of Washington County but has a vital role in shaping our whole region’s future for generations to come. We need to do everything we can to make sure voters know they have a clear choice. Please join us for one of the following activities:
Phonebank for Dick: April 15 (tax day!), 5-8pm, Washington County Dems
Phonebank for Dick: April 19, 5-8pm, Washington County Dems
Earth Day Canvass for Dick: April 25, 11-3pm, Cooper Mountain Park
If you have questions or want to find out about other activities, email Zac Brugman at zacbrugman@olcv.org or call him at (503) 422-1877.
We need to let voters know that there is a clear difference between the candidates:
Dick Schouten is an environmental champion who has spent the last 20 years working to improve the livability in Washington County communities by protecting our natural areas and greenspaces and connecting our communities by improving pedestrian and bike access.
Andy Duyck has one of the worst environmental records as a Washington County Commissioner where he has repeatedly put developer interests over the interests of the greater community. Duyck opposed the 2006 Metro Greenspaces Bond and as a global warming denier would lead us in the wrong direction at a time when we need true leadership.
The choice is clear - but Dick can't win unless voters know the choice. Please contact Zac to see how you can help!
Bob Stacey for Metro President
The race for Metro President is heating up and the three candidates vying for the seat debated at the City Club of Portland last Friday, giving listeners real insight about why we need to elect Bob Stacey. As Steve Novick commented about the debate, "Bob demonstrated command of details, his values and his strong sense of Metro's mission. At the end of the debate you knew what Bob would do at Metro, why he would do it and why Metro matters." If you missed it, you can listen to the City Club debate here.
Back at Bob Stacey’s campaign headquarters, Anna, OLCV’s field organizer on the campaign, has a number of new opportunities for you to help elect Bob. Here are just a few:
Enviro Night for Bob phonebank: April 13, 6-9pm, Campaign Headquarters

Protection of remaining intact wilderness for its intrinsic value to all living inhabitants is as noble and worthy a goal as any development could possibly be. That's why we support organizations such as OLCV and our political representatives who work hard to protect Oregon's natural legacy.
