Forum on the proposed Home Rule Charter for Marion County

OLCV endorsed Charter will be discussed February 18

On February 18, 7 p.m., the League of Women Voters will host a public forum to discuss the proposed Home Rule Charter, measure 24-292, which will be on the May 18 ballot for Marion County voters. OLCV endorsed the proposed Marion County Charter Initiative in December.

This focus of this program is to help educate community members about the various forms of county governance around Oregon and, in particular, how the current form is working in Marion County.  

WHEN: Thursday, February 18, 7 p.m.
WHERE: Chemeketa Community College, Student Center, Building 2
(Chemeketa is allowing parking without permits that evening.  Building 2 is on the north side of the campus - drive around to the north parking lot, use the north entrance, and turn right just inside the building.)

Willamette Law School Professer Paul Diller will provide a general overview on county government and delve a little deeper on issues in Marion County.  

Diller teaches Local Government Law as one of his specialities, along with Property and National Security Law.  He has been at Willamette since 2005 and is a frequent commentator on legal and politicsl issues in Oregon.

Salem City Councilor Bob Cannon will discuss his support for the Charter. Cannon has been a local government lawyer for 30 years, served as Marion County Counsel, and Marion County Administrator.

Marion County Commissioner Sam Brentano will explain why he's opposed to the Charter.  Brentano has served on the Commission for six years. He served as Mayor of Sublimity, 1982-93 and worked as a Fire Department EMT.  

Sandra Gangle will moderate the forum.
