Fight corporate polluters!
Oregon's natural legacy is at stake.
With less than two weeks before Oregon voters receive their ballots in the mail, we still have a lot of work to do to make sure Oregonians vote YES on Measures 66 and 67. Now is the time to get the word out!
Please, if you haven’t already, take the Pledge to vote YES for a Clean and Healthy Oregon.
Then, tell two friends!
Why should you tell your friends?
Some voters are still confused about these measures. And it’s no wonder. The opposition, funded by the oil industry and other corporate polluters, is throwing wads of cash into the No campaign and its misleading messages.
And they are putting Oregon's environment at risk.
Earlier this month, the Oregonian reported that the state's fiscal crisis may mean significant cuts to the thirty-year-old landmark Forest Practices Act, which helps the state protect water and wildlife habitat on private forest lands. Those cuts would "force Oregon to abandon enforcement of the law," a possibility "especially if two tax measures on the ballot fail."
Unfortunately, that's just one program on the line. Air and water pollution monitoring, clean energy investments and job creation programs also face possible cuts. Here in Oregon, we take pride in all the outdoors has to offer. But without funds to take care of what we love, we risk losing it. Get the facts.
That's why OLCV and the Oregon Conservation Network, a coalition of more than 40 environmental groups from around the state, are working hard to talk to as many voters as possible before Election Day January 26. WaterWatch of Oregon is a member of OCN. As their executive director John Devoe puts it:
"Measures 66 and 67 will help preserve important environmental safeguards that protect rivers and streams across Oregon. That’s because these measures will help prevent financial chaos in our state government, chaos that would result in funding cuts to water management agencies that already have been shorthanded for years. We need to do more to protect Oregon's waters, not less."
So, please, take a moment right now to take the Pledge.
Then, help us get the word out. Tell your friends!
Vote YES for a Clean and Healthy Oregon! Vote YES on Measures 66 and 67.
Thank you for helping protect Oregon's natural legacy.
We need proactive leaders that we can depend on to protect the health of our environment and that of Oregonians.
