Come watch a movie with us!

June 1, 2010

Join OLCV at the world premiere of “Deep Green" on June 24.

"Deep Green" is an unprecedented new documentary on how to stop man-made global warming now.

More than three years in the making, “Deep Green” is the first major documentary devoted exclusively to showing us how we can “fix” global warming. Portland filmmaker Matt Briggs takes us on a compelling journey through nine countries, including China, to uncover cutting-edge technologies and restorative solutions to get the job done. Read a post on the OLCV Blog from Matt Briggs.

This is a noteworthy event in its own right, but the passion behind the film, Matt Briggs, has generously offered to donate to OLCV the proceeds from the 6 p.m. showing on Thursday, June 24. Those proceeds will support the work OLCV continues to do to protect Oregon’s natural legacy from unmitigated global warming pollution in the state by passing strong environmental safeguards in the Oregon Legislature.

Filmmaker Matt Briggs will also be at the event. Tickets are only $5! Purchase your tickets here.

“Deep Green” goes beyond the politics of climate change, and features green visionaries from all over the world--and from Oregon.

The documentary sheds new light on the best solutions worldwide in energy efficiency, green building, de-carbonizing transportation, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy and smart grids, and forest restoration. Some are profoundly simple and practical, like what one person can do to lower the carbon load in their own home. Others are necessarily complex, such as Project DESERTEC, a super-sized smart grid to supply diverse renewable energies to all of Europe and North Africa.

Along the way, “Deep Green” visits with nearly three dozen legendary visionaries – including bestselling authors Lester Brown and Michael Pollan; scientists Amory Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute and Dr. David Suzuki; former CIA Director James Woolsey; Edward Kjaer, the Director of Electric Transportation for Southern California Edison; the Natural Resources Council‘s China Program Director Barbara Finamore; and green tech leaders in China.

“Deep Green” also features many of Oregon‘s own recognized green leaders: Kyle Andersen, GBD Architects; Kathy Bash, DMS Architects; Shane Endicott, The Rebuilding Center; Andy Frichtl, Interface Engineering; Elliot Mainzer, Bonneville Power Administration; R. Peter Wilcox, Renewable Associates; Dennis Wilde, Gerding Edlen Development; Dr. Susan Wolff, Columbia Gorge Community College; Portland City Commissioner Dan Saltzman; and former Governor John Kitzhaber (both of whom OLCV endorsed in 2010).

We hope you’ll join us at this great event, and help benefit OLCV at the same time.

NOTE: The film is being shown for four nights but only the Thursday night screening is a benefit for OLCV.
