E-bulletin                                                                                                                                                    April 22, 2010

Happy Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day, and Earth Week turns 40 this year. Since the very first Earth Week in 1970, Oregon and the nation have both taken important and historic steps to protect our environmental legacy for generations to come.

Of course, there is still work to do and we need your help. Calling voters, knocking on doors, gathering signatures. Whatever you do, show some love for Oregon during Earth Week. We've got plenty of suggestions for fun events that will make a real difference in Oregon's environmental future. So read on...and then sign up!

Dine out TODAY and benefit OLCV's local election work

It's become an Earth Day tradition: Dine out at a participating restaurant on Earth Day and benefit OLCV's local election work and the environment at the same time without spending an extra dime. Find participating restaurants in your area at www.olcv.org/EatfortheEarth.

Join more than 1,000 guests at OLCV's Annual Dinner tomorrow

We are looking forward to celebrating with more than 1,000 environmental allies and champions at OLCV's Annual Dinner Friday night. Will you be there? This year's dinner boasts an energetic program and an array of event sponsors. Read more and get tickets!

Help OLCV talk to voters about environmental candidates

The May 18th primary is less than four weeks away, and there are critical races all over the state that present opportunities to vote for the conservation values we all share. Read all the latest election news.

OLCV is working to make sure we elect environmental champions at all levels of government. We need your help! Read about some of the races we are working on and help environmental candidates win.

Bob Stacey for Metro Prez

One of the biggest races in the Portland metro area is the race for Metro President. OLCV is working hard to elect longtime environmental champion Bob Stacey. Sign up for a phone bank and help determine how the Portland region grows.

Schouten for Washington County Chair

Voters in Washington County have the rare opportunity to re-shape the county commission bu electing pro-conservation leaders at a time when the region faces tough questions about how to grow and protect the environment at the same time. OLCV is behind Dick Schouten for Washington County Chair. Read more and get involved!

Sign up to phonebank or canvass for Schouten.

Help elect Will Rasmussen in
Clackamas County

OLCV is working on a big race in Clackamas County: Will Rasmussen for Oregon House Representative. Rasmussen is a strong believer in Oregon's landmark protections for farm and forestland. Read more about Will, and about three OLCV-endorsed candidates running for the Clackamas County Commission.

Sign up to phonebank or canvass for Will.

Preserve the pro-conservation majority in
Lane County

Electing Jerry Rust and Pat Riggs-Henson to the Lane County Commission will help ensure that the commission continues to prioritize conservation values as it grapples with issues of growth, transportation, land use and forest management. Read more about these candidates on OLCV's Lane County chapter web page.

Find out about upcoming events in Lane County.

Other election news

OLCV has endorsed more than 70 candidates, including Sam Bennett for Salem Mayor, Duke Shepard for Metro Councilor, and Karol Collymore for Multnomah County Commission. Read about these candidates and more.

Help protect water, parks and wildlife

We need your help! Signatures are now being gathered for an important ballot measure that will preserve critical funding for Oregon's natural resources. For more than a decade, 15 percent of Oregon’s Lottery funds have worked to restore wildlife habitat, protect our water supply, and make our state and local parks safer and more accessible for all Oregon families.

But unless we take action now, this funding will end. There are only 10 weeks left to gather the signatures needed to get on the ballot. Read more and sign up to volunteer!
