Oregon League of Conservation Voters Endorses Kulongoski

Group Praises Governor’s Leadership on Renewable Fuels, Clean Energy

Portland The Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) announced its endorsement of Governor Ted Kulongoski for reelection.  In issuing the endorsement, OLCV praised the Governor’s leadership in bringing cleaner, more fuel-efficient cars to Oregon and his commitment to combating global warming.

“We’ve reached a tipping point in history when bold action is needed to promote renewable, clean  energy,” said Jonathan Poisner, Executive Director of OLCV.  “Ted Kulongoski is the only candidate for Governor with a bold plan and a strong record supporting significant efforts to clean our air, develop alternative energy sources, and combat global warming.”

In 2005, the auto industry and Republican legislators tried to prevent Oregon from adopting stronger tailpipe emissions standards for new cars, but were blocked by the Governor’s veto pen.  Governor Kulongoski’s leadership means less reliance on foreign oil, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and most importantly, cleaner air for Oregon children.

“Literally, we can take a deep breath knowing that this Governor is committed to clean air for our children and grandchildren,” said Poisner.

In addition, the Governor has endorsed smart technologies and alternatives to fossil fuels such as wave energy research and wind power. He has aggressively campaigned to stimulate Oregon’s biofuels markets, which will clean our air, help our local farmers and state’s economy, and save consumers money at the gas pump.

“Governor Kulongoski has earned OLCV’s endorsement as the only candidate with both a track record and plan to combat global warming, protect our rivers and forests, and keep Oregon a great place to live for our kids,” said Poisner.

The Oregon League of Conservation Voters is the political voice of Oregon’s environmental movement.  OLCV is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that educates Oregonians on how their elected officials and candidates stand on environmental issues, endorses and helps elect pro-environment candidates.
