Brown Earns Early Endorsement and OLCV’s 2017 Environmental Champion of the Year Award

Portland, OR – The Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) announced today its early endorsement of Governor Kate Brown for re-election in the 2018 gubernatorial election, and that she has earned OLCV’s 2017 Environmental Champion of the Year award.

“In the race for governor, OLCV is proud to stand with our Environmental Champion of the Year, Governor Kate Brown. She earned both OLCV’s early endorsement and our top award because as our governor, she has protected our public lands, fought to reduce toxic air pollution, and worked to make Oregon a leader in the fight against climate change,” said Doug Moore, executive director of OLCV. “It is because of Governor Brown’s leadership that Oregon’s Elliott State Forest will remain in public hands instead of being sold off to private timber interests. With her continued leadership, Oregon will uphold its commitment to protecting our natural legacy for future generations by tackling climate change and expanding our clean energy economy.”

OLCV applauds Brown’s deep understanding of environmental issues and her proven record of action, especially in the face of the Trump administration’s widespread attacks on the environment. While the President and his administration are busy trying to shrink our public lands, including the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, Governor Brown fought to prevent the private sale of the Elliott State Forest. When President Trump proposed pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement, Governor Brown doubled down on her leadership to fight climate change, including announcing support for the Clean Energy Jobs bill, which will cap and price greenhouse gas emissions and invest the proceeds in our communities most affected by climate change.

Governor Brown expressed her appreciation for OLCV’s support and recognition. “I am truly honored to have earned OLCV’s early support for my re-election as governor and humbled to be chosen as OLCV’s Environmental Champion of the Year,” she said. “I’m running to make Oregon an even better place to live, work and raise a family. Global climate change and toxic pollution are threatening Oregon’s environment, economy, and our very way of life. As the federal government retreats, I will stand up to ensure Oregon continues moving forward – leading on climate change and growing the clean energy economy.”

“OLCV is proud to stand with Governor Kate Brown. She has shown time and again that she will stand strong to protect Oregon and Oregonians, to preserve our natural legacy, and lead the way fight climate change. Governor Kate Brown is the leader Oregon needs,” Doug Moore said.
