Statement of Oregon Conservation Network Lobbyist Jessica Hamilton
“Overall, Oregon’s environmental community is disappointed in the proposed budget deal and feels that it is a budget of lost opportunities.
“The budget deal contains more bad news than good for Oregonians who believe in leaving a healthy environment for their children and grandchildren.
“House Leadership worked to support corporate special interests over everyday Oregonians by rolling back environmental safeguards. We’re disappointed that Senate Leadership and the Governor didn’t do more to stand up against the House assault on our clean water and clean air.
“The Oregon Conservation Network is particularly critical of deals that will lead to unsustainable levels of logging in our State Forests and prevents the state from adopting Clean Car safeguards to protect our air and reduce global warming pollution.
Timber companies and big automobile manufacturers won, while our grandkids and everyone who breathes lost.”
“We’re glad to see funding for the Pesticide Use Reporting System, but funding isn’t the whole story. Unfortunately, the pesticide industry was successful in changing the scope of the program so that data collected in the vast majority of the state will be almost meaningless.
