Chapman has the experience and values needed to move Salem in the right direction

Salem, OR:  The Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) announced their endorsements for the May 2008 primary races for City Council and several state primary races in Marion County.

The Oregon League of Conservation Voters is the independent political voice for Oregon’s environment and their seal of approval provides voters with critical information as they decide who will represent them locally and who they will send to Salem.

Lloyd Chapman for Mayor of SalemIn a statement from OLCV they deemed Lloyd Chapman “a candidate for the 21st Century” adding they support his message to bring all of Salem’s voices to the table in order to work together responsibly to improve Salem’s quality of life now and for future generations.

“Lloyd has extensive experience working to improve our quality of life from his work in the Peace Corps and tsunami relief to advocating for neighborhoods and families locally,” explained Tresa Horney, OLCV’s Marion County Field Organize. “More importantly, Chapman understands that improving our quality of life and protecting our environment are life values not simply ideas.”

In Marion County local races, OLCV has endorsed:

Salem Mayor - Lloyd Chapman

Salem City Council Ward 1 – Chuck Bennett

Salem City Council Ward 5 – Diana Dickey

Salem City Council Ward 7 – Bob Cannon

“Voters are concerned about Salem’s growing population and are looking for candidates who will make responsible choices to protect our neighborhoods and open spaces,” said Horney. “Election results from 2006 and in the 2007 special election show we are clamoring for leaders who will fight for and protect our interests not the needs and pockets of reckless developers.”

We believe the candidates who have earned OLCV’s endorsement share these concerns and will work the hardest to protect Salem’s neighborhoods from irresponsible over-development and keep our air and water clean and healthy for our children and grandchildren,” said Horney.

OLCV has endorsed in several legislative primaries:

House District 17 – Dan Thackaberry
House District 18 – Jim Gilbert
House District 20 – Richard Riggs
House District 21 – Brian Clem
House District 22 – Betty Komp
House District 23 – Jason Brown
