OLCV Endorsements could make the difference in Clackamas County

Oregon City, OR:  The Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) announced their endorsements for the May 2008 primary races for City Council and County Commission in Clackamas County as well as the State Legislature.

The Oregon League of Conservation Voters is the independent political voice for Oregon’s environment and their seal of approval provides voters with critical information as they decide who will represent them locally and who they will send to Salem.

In the Clackamas County Commission, OLCV has endorsed:

Clackamas County Commission Chair – Lynn Peterson
Clackamas County Commission Position 3 – Martha Schrader
Clackamas County Commission Position 4 – Charlotte Lehan

In 2007, voters in Clackamas County passed an initiative that expanded the county board of commissioners from three members to five. The Clackamas County Chapter of OLCV has endorsed in three of the five races: Lynn Peterson for Chair, Martha Schrader for Position 3 and Wilsonville Mayor Charlotte Lehan for the new Position 4.

“With the recently added positions to the Clackamas County Commission, we are lucky to have the established environmental leadership of Lynn Peterson and the opportunity to add the exceptional experience of Mayor Lehan to the commission,” said Sue Marshall, steering committee member of the Clackamas County Chapter of OLCV.

On the Metro Council, OLCV endorsed Carlotta Collette for Metro Position 2.  Collette, former Milwaukie City Councilor, was appointed to the council last November after Brian Newman stepped down.

“Clackamas County’s population and development is expected to increase quickly over the next 20 years. As a result, voters are looking for environmental leaders who will encourage responsible planning and protect the natural beauty found throughout our county. The candidates who have earned OLCV’s endorsement share these values and will work hard to keep our air and water clean and healthy for our families and future generations,” said Meredith Shield field organizer for the Clackamas County Chapter of OLCV.

OLCV has endorsed in two contested legislative primaries:

House District 38 - Chris Garrett

House District 52 - Suzanne VanOrman

Chris Garrett received OLCV’s endorsement for the House seat vacated by Representative Greg Macpherson. Garrett has the passion, knowledge and background to be a leader on the environment. Macpherson, whose lifetime score on OLCV’s Environmental Scorecard is 97%, was recently endorsed by OLCV for State Attorney General.
