Do you look
for leaders who will champion renewable energy, work to combat global warming,
defend Oregon's air and water from pollution and preserve our beautiful
landscapes?
Do you look at OLCV's website or newsletter to determine who
deserves your
vote?
Then why not take the pledge?
Pledge to vote for pro-environment leaders this November and get your friends
and family to take the pledge too!
Visit www.olcv.org/takethepledge and join
thousands of Oregonians across the state. Let's show the folks in Salem that
protecting Oregon and leaving a beautiful healthy legacy for our children is our
top priority!
30 years ago, it was 1978: Jimmy Carter was President, and George W.
Bush made an unsuccessful run for a US House seat (if only he’d given up on a
political career then...). Half of the OLCV staff weren’t yet born. Meanwhile,
the individuals listed below could see the need for political leadership that
took seriously their responsibility to protect our air, water, and land. And so
with their support, OLCV grew.
Since 1972, OLCV has worked to pass strong
laws that protect Oregon’s natural heritage by electing pro-environment leaders
to office and holding our elected officials accountable.
Throughout these last 36 years we have relied on the support of Oregonians
around the state who understand the importance of this work. OLCV would not
exist without all of you: thank you!
We are pleased that OLCV members
are a faithful bunch who tend to give for many years... but the list of
supporters below is exceptional.
The following individuals have been
giving to OLCV for thirty years or more!
Frank & Dorothy Anderson Edward & Marilyn Epstein Liz &
Bob Frenkel John Frewing & Gayle Kauffman Steve Levy Cynthia
Lord Walt & Vicki Mintkeski Rowland Orum Rosalyn Paul Jeanne
& Dick Roy
We extend our most grateful thanks to these individuals
for their generous, reliable, and ongoing support through the years. And to the
rest of you reading this who are new members, or have been giving for years
yourselves: Thank you!
Thanks to all of you who gave
in response to the appeal we sent out last week.
Hard to believe that ballots go out
in just 90 days!
We have unique opportunitiesto sweep in a number of new pro-environment
candidates to Oregon's House of Representatives. This would have a huge
impact on our ability to protect Oregon's air, water, and land, and to
combat global warming, in the 2009 Legislative session.
On
the local level, too, we have the chance to elect pro-environment
candidates to several county commissions and city
councils all over the state - but a lot of these races will be very close.
We know that OLCV's targeted, sophisticated political
programs work - that's why it's essential that we have the resources we need to
fully engage in state and local level races this fall. Please
make a gift today if you haven't had the
chance to yet.

I believe that most decisions we make
whether it’s as individuals or together as a society are based on the belief
that we are doing something that is good either for ourselves or our neighbors.
So what exactly do you believe when you made the
decision to switch from bottled water to a Brita filter? Maybe you were
motivated by something other than your pocketbook/wallet when you decided to
leave your car at home and walk/bike/take public transit to work.
