OLCV e-bulletin: Primary Election Edition
May 15, 2008
OLCV e-bulletin
Edition 10
|
Are you part of the Haves or Have
nots?
|
Environmental voters are breaking voter turnout records
across the state, voting at nearly double the rate of registered voters at
large. Not only are we voting earlier, but there are more of us voting. There
are likely several reasons for this, but you can be sure one reason is that we
have more strong pro-environement leaders to vote for than
ever before.
So what about you? Have you voted yet?
If you're part of
the have nots, why not join the legions of environmental voters
that have (voted) and get your ballot in today?
And remember
your vote is your voice.
When you cast your vote, please support the
candidates that share your values: a shared responsibility to protect the
planet, passing on a healthy natural legacy to our kids, and a clean, safe
environment for our families.
Share your voting experience
or your feelings about this year's election on our blog.

Deadlines,
deadlines!
|
|
We want your
ballot to count!
If you plan to mail your ballot in, make sure it's in
the mail by Friday (tomorrow) to make sure it gets to the elections office by
May 20.
If you can't get it in the mail by Friday, take it to a local
drop-off location before 8 pm next Tuesday, May 20.
Visit the
Secretary of State's website
to find out where you can drop your ballot off.
Do you mail your ballot in or drop it off on the last day
possible? We'd like to know. Visit our blog and tell us when and how you prefer
to vote.
|
| If you talk,
they will listen. |
|
Do you watch the political ads on tv or read
the colorful, glossy mail you're getting from the political candidates in your
area? Most people don't pay a lot of attention to either tv ads or mail and when
they do they don't get all the facts.
That's why we're having one-on-one
conversations with voters at their door and on the phone. We want to make sure
voters know why the candidates who received OLCV's endorsement deserve their
vote.
OLCV has identified a
number of upcoming leaders who we believe have what it takes to be Oregon’s next
environmental champions in Clackamas, Lane and Multnomah Counties. But several
candidates -- Jules Kopel-Bailey, Jim Middaugh, and Rob Handy to name a few -- are involved
in tough primary races. We are focusing our resources on these and a few other
races where our support can tip the balance.
Help make a difference in these races. Help elect the next environmental
champion in Oregon! Sign
up now to volunteer this weekend.

| Meet Greg
Macpherson (OLCV endorsed candidate for Attorney
General) |
Over the past
month, we've introduced you to several pro-environment candidates on our blog,
OLCV
Talk. We will continue this campaign
until November 4, 2008.
There is less than a week left before our
ballots are due for this year's historic primary, so we're wasting no time. This
week we'd like to introduce you to two more candidates. The first candidate is
Greg Machperson for Attorney General.
Many of you may be familiar with Greg Macpherson
for his leadership in passing Measure 49. But Greg has been a leader on
environmental issues for many years. It is both his experience and his vision
for Oregon that earned him OLCV's endorsement.
Learn more about Greg's
environmental
values and his plans to protect our environment as Attorney General at
our
blog.

If you live in the eastern portion of Multnomah
County, you've probably heard of Carla Piluso; she's running for Multnomah
County Commissioner. Carla's resume more than fits the bill for County
Commissioner, but it's her environmental values that earned her OLCV's
endorsement. Learn more about Carla and her vision for East County on our
blog. Check our blog each week to find out who
is in the spotlight and what they plan to do to protect the environment you
love. Over the past weeks we've featured candidates Nick Kahl, Michael
Dembrow, Suzanne Bonamici, Jackie Dingfelder and Jules Kopel-Bailey. You
can find their posts at OLCV Talk.

| Sustainable Seafood Bake and Silent
Auction |
|
Save the Date: Sunday, June 29 at
Cafe Mundo [time to be determined]
The annual Salmon and Tuna Bake is back this year.
But it has a new name and promises to be even better than last year's hit
event.
The Lincoln County Chapter of OLCV has renamed the event
the "Sustainable Seafood Bake and Silent Auction" to draw more awareness to the
fishing crisis at the coast. At the event, we'll encourage people to learn more
about sustainable fishing practices and we'll serve only sustainably harvested
seafood. Cafe Mundo has agreed to host this popular event in Newport.
This event grows increasingly more popular every
year, so stay tuned for more information. Tickets will be going fast!
There will be more information on our website
soon.
