OLCV e-bulletin: Special Earth Day Edition
April 17, 2008
OLCV e-bulletin
Edition 8
| Will you remember Earth Day when you cast your
vote? |
This Earth Day (or
Earth Week - which kicked off yesterday) many of us will spend a day or two this
weekend volunteering.
But making sure our
communities know just how important it is to protect our planet is more than
just a weekend affair. It is a long-term commitment. We must elect leaders that
understand how important healthy, clean air and water are to a healthy, strong
economy. In addition, we'll need strong environmental champions in our City
Halls and our state Capitol to lead the fight against global
warming.
Fortunately, we have
many highly qualified pro-environment candidates running in local and state
races that share our pro-environment values and our desire to leave a strong
environmental legacy for our families. Help make sure your friends and neighbors
know how lucky we are.
Sign up online now to talk to voters in
Clackamas, Lane and Multnomah Counties! In
Clackamas, Lane and Multnomah Counties, several candidates who have received
OLCV's endorsement are involved in tough primary races. As a result we are
targeting several of these races to make sure we do everything we can to
help the pro-environment candidates win in May.
online to talk to voters in Marion County! In Marion County, OLCV is talking to voters about Lloyd
Chapman for Salem Mayor. The mayor's seat is decided in the primary election. We
are talking to as any voters as we can to make sure they understand how
important their votes
are.

Democracy,
face-to-face
|
|
Evan Manvel, our legislative affairs director, recently shared
his experience going door-to-door to talk to voters face-to-face about Senate
candidate Jackie Dingfelder over on Blue Oregon. Here is an excerpt from his
post:
"Yesterday gave me faith. I was out
canvassing for Rep. Jackie Dingfelder, OLCV's 2007 Environmental Champion of the
Year, in her race for the State Senate (JackieForSenate.com). And while being around Jackie's unstoppable
energy, basking in the relative warmth of the coming Oregon spring, and
exploring beautiful neighborhoods didn't hurt, what really brought me joy were
the conversations I had on people's doorsteps."
