OLCV e-bulletin: OLCV's 2008 Endorsements and OLCV's watchdog
March 20, 2008
OLCV e-bulletin
Edition 6
| OLCV 2008
Endorsements |
|
We are proud to announce OLCV's 2008 endorsements in city,
county and state races.
In 2007, landmark environmental legislation was
passed by the Oregon Legislature - primarily because in 2006 Oregonians elected
a pro-environment majority to Oregon legislative leadership. Although in the
House this majority is extremely narrow.
This year we have the opportunity to send more pro-environment
leaders to Salem and send a strong message: we want responsible leaders that
will keep Oregon's air and water healthy and safeguard Oregon's environmental
legacy for future generations.
Over
the last few months, we have worked hard to identify
the candidates who will work the hardest to keep our air and water
clean, protect Oregon's natural beauty and work responsibly to combat global
warming. We interviewed more than 100 candidates, 73 of whom earned our
endorsement.

The 2007 Session showed us how green Oregon could be
with pro-environment leadership in charge. Let's see to it that the 2009 Session
makes Oregon even greener.
Volunteer to
help elect pro-environment candidates with OLCV.

A new face at
OLCV
|
|
Over the past three months, readers have cast
hundreds of votes for the new face of OLCV's watchdog work. But
there is only room for one top dog at
OLCV. We've counted the votes and it was extremely close! The winner by
a nose is: [drum roll please...]
Max!
Congratulations Max! You're the new face of OLCV's watchdog work.
OLCV monitors your elected officials and how they're voting on environmental
issues so you know the score.
Thank you to everyone that
participated in our watchdog contest. You were great!

| Reflections on
Guatemala |
|
Our executive director, Jonathan Poisner, recently had the
opportunity to spend 15 days touring around Guatemala. Here is an brief
excerpt of his experience:
It was an outdoor cornucopia. We
experienced forests and jungles, lakes and rivers, volcanoes and canyons. We
got to put walking sticks into lava and watch them catch fire, swam through a
cave holding a candle, and spent an afternoon basking in a series of crystal
blue pools.
Did Jonathan really find paradise?
Read about his trip and view pictures on our
blog.
