Give Oregon Your Love on its
Birthday!

I can't
think of a better day than today to show your love for Oregon by giving a
special gift to OLCV's Political Action Committee. Why?
We all know it's
Valentine's Day today - that cheesy, Hallmark-inspired holiday that nonetheless
leads a lot of people to let their loved ones know how much they're
appreciated.
But did you also know that
February 14 is Oregon's birthday? We're 149 this year! And
after decades of stalemates and rollbacks to landmark laws that protected
Oregon's precious rivers and streams, family farms, healthy forests and
beautiful vistas, last year OLCV helped get Oregon back on
track.
Landmark environmental legislation was passed in the 2007
Legislative Session primarily because in 2006 Oregonians elected a
pro-environment majority to Oregon legislative leadership. But in the
House this majority is just ONE SEAT. If we lose this majority in 2008, we
will return to the days of playing defense and lose momentum in
2009.
With the critical 2008 elections around the corner, I can't think
of a better day than today - Valentine's Day AND Oregon's birthday - to show
Oregon how much you love Oregon! Please take a moment
now to make a contribution of $35, $50, $100 or whatever you can afford to OLCV
PAC on our secure server.
And then... get it all
back when you file your Oregon taxes! Oregon offers a "political tax
credit" (not a deduction) for donations to groups like OLCV PAC, of up to $50
for individuals and $100 for couples filing jointly. When you fill out your
taxes, just add that amount to what the state owes you, or subtract it from what
you owe in taxes!

In 2008 we will need to work hard to hold onto,
and expand, our narrow majority in the Oregon Legislature. The 2007 Session
showed what a difference it made to have pro-environment leadership in charge.
And there are also many key local races we must win.
Right now we are
busy recruiting, endorsing and
training candidates to help them succeed. When election time comes, we will
support many of these candidates with our sophisticated, grassroots,
get-out-the-vote campaigning.
OLCV PAC knows what it takes to
win. But we need your help to do so. Please
help us reach our goal of $1,490 in celebration of Oregon's 149th birthday by
making a special contribution to OLCV PAC now on our secure
server. Or, send a check to the address in the left sidebar (just
write "Happy Birthday Oregon!" on the envelope).

the campaign to pass Measure 49 last fall. Now we need to rebuild our coffers
so we can throw our collective weight into helping candidates who love Oregon

It is hard to put a
price on air that's good to breathe, on healthy streams teeming with wild native
fish, on moments of solitude in nature.
It's hard to quantify the
knowledge that our state is leading efforts to combat global warming and to
promote sustainable, clean energy.
But
this is exactly what OLCV PAC works to protect and defend. We work to elect
candidates who support our values; who will vote responsibly on bills to protect
our air, water, and land, and who will not sell out our children's legacy to the
highest bidder.
