We did it!

I am proud to be an Oregonian.

All those months of talking to our neighbors, friends and strangers paid off as Oregonians voted Tuesday in overwhelming support for Measure 49.

We voiced our support to keep our valuable farms and forests protected from reckless development where it doesn't belong and passed M49 with 62 percent of the statewide vote.

Congratulations Oregon. And thank you to the 10,000 campaign volunteers, 5,000 donors and the committed campaign staff that worked so hard to keep Oregon a great place to live!

We don't get to celebrate nearly enough. So next time you drive by a beautiful farm, hike through one of Oregon's amazing forests, or drink a glass of water knowing your water supplies are a bit more secure, pat yourself on the back. You deserve it.

You can read about what M49 means for Oregon in the Yes on 49 campaign's press release.

Many of you put in long hours to help resoundingly pass Measure 49. And you should take a minute to pat yourselves on the back for keeping Oregon a special place to live.  But the 2008 elections are just around the corner, six months until the primaries in May and the big one, the election we've been counting down for, is now less than a year away.

Now that you've perfected volunteering for a campaign, perhaps it is time you were in charge of your own.  If you are considering a run in a local race this spring, or helping a friend get elected, now is the time to get the ball rolling.

So let's keep the momentum going. In 2008, we'll have many opportunities to make Oregon even better!

The OLCV Education Fund can help you prepare as a candidate or campaign leader/volunteer. You can sign up here to receive information about upcoming trainings.  Or, if you're interested in having a confidential conversation about potentially running for office, feel free to contact OLCV's Political Director, Katy Daily.
