OLCV's Tenth Annual Dinner: An Important Update |
| OLCV's Tenth Annual Dinner is coming up on Friday, April 27, 2007, in Portland! |
We're pleased to announce that Cathy Zoi, CEO of Al Gore's organization, the Alliance for Climate Protection will be this year's keynote speaker. She replaces Jerome Ringo, who had to cancel. |
Zoi served as Chief of Staff at the Council on Environmental Quality in the Clinton-Gore administration, where she managed the staff working on greenhouse and energy policies. |
She was also a manager at the US Environmental Protection Agency where she helped pioneer the Energy Star Program. Read more about Cathy –scroll through the board biographies to the staff. |
Every year, friends and members of Oregon’s environmental, political, civic, and sustainable business communities gather for a night of camaraderie to celebrate our shared commitment to protecting Oregon’s air, water, and land. |
The 2007 dinner also marks two significant dates for OLCV. Not only is it our Tenth Annual Dinner, it is OLCV's 35th Anniversary as an organization. This special dual anniversary will be highlighted at the event. |

$720 raised so far - $780 left to go to meet our goal of $1,500! |
Thanks to all of you who have given in the last few days to the e-bulletin appeal to support Sybil and Chris, OLCV’s lobbying team in Salem. |
7 of you have generously given $720 so far - thank you! That gets us nearly half-way to our goal. We still need to raise $780 more to meet our goal of $1,500 to help make this Session the Environmental Session. |
Please give what you can here. Or send a check to the address at the left banner of this appeal, with a note saying “for OLCV’s lobbying program!” |
If our momentum continues for another 12 weeks, this will be the best Oregon Legislative session for Oregon's environment since the 1980s. |
OLCV Lobbyists Sybil Ackerman and Chris Parta need your support now to help keep the pressure on in these crucial weeks. Significant environmental issues are receiving attention right now, including bills to support renewable energy and biofuels, keep old TVs and computers out of landfills, and get toxics out of our rivers and streams. We need your support now to cover costs associated with our lobbying program! |
Please give what you can now to help us meet our goal. Even small contributions are helpful! |
And thanks again to those of you who have given already! We appreciate your support. |
“This is a great event!” |
“Thank you! I’m really grateful for this opportunity every session!” |
“I really enjoyed what the speakers had to say!” |
| Participants not only learned the ins and outs of lobbying their legislators, they had fun doing it! |
| On Tuesday, April 3rd, nearly 300 Oregonians from all over the state traveled to the Capitol to meet with their legislators as part of Environmental Lobby Day. Reflecting the resurgent clout of the environmental community, they called on their legislators to vote for the environment and adopt the Oregon Conservation Network’s (OCN) Priorities for a Healthy Oregon. |
| Secretary of State Bill Bradbury, Senate Environment Committee Chair Brad Avakian, House Energy, and representatives from several Oregon Conservation Network groups spoke to the gathering about what's happening this legislative session on critical environmental issues and how Oregonians can help move environmental legislation forward. |

This Earth Day, if you live in Lane, Lincoln or Marion County, you can dine out and make a difference. OLCV has expanded its successful Eat out for the Earth event to three counties this year. This is a great way for you to eat at your one of your favorite restaurants and protect the planet. |
How it works… |
Participating local restaurants in Lincoln and Marion Counties will donate a portion of their Earth Day profits (April 22, 2007) to their local OLCV Chapter to express their support for a clean and healthy environment. |
In Lane County, the Chapter will be asking people to Eat For the Earth at the restaurants in Lane County that have agreed to donate a portion of their sales or profits during Earth Day week from April 19th-25th (for a day or time of their choosing). This event is being co-sponsored with the Eugene Weekly. |
Proceeds from Eat for the Earth helps our local OLCV Chapters' efforts to ensure that local candidates friendly to the environment are elected at the city, county, and state levels. |
| We have done this event for a number of years and look forward to its continued success. We hope you will come out and support local businesses and the environment on Earth Day and Earth Day week! |
