The Newport News-Times June 04, 2008

The Oregon League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (OLCV Ed-Fund) is hosting the first Lincoln County Coastal Caucus on Tuesday, June 10.

This event is the first countywide discussion on environmental issues affecting the central coast. Participants will have an opportunity to hear from local elected officials about their plans to protect air, water and natural resources and learn more about what's happening in other areas of the county.

“The purpose of this event is to spark an ongoing conversation on issues that matter between our local elected officials and the families and neighbors they represent,” said Tresa Horney, event organizer. “We all share the responsibility of protecting the things we love on the coast and in our forests. We are facing some very big challenges when it comes to protecting our planet for future generations: protecting our oceans, fighting global warming, managing our growing communities. But we can overcome these challenges and get a lot more done if we work together.”

The caucus will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Newport City Hall, 169 SW Coast Highway. Refreshments and light snacks will be offered.

The public is invited to attend and share concerns in an open and informal forum. Participants are strongly encouraged to RSVP.

For more information, or to RSVP, call 503-224-4011 ext. 206 or e-mail tresa@olcv.org.
