Volunteer to help pro-environment candidates win!
- Jules Kopel-Bailey (D-Portland), a native Portlander
who has spent many years solving environmental challenges around the
world. He brought what he learned back
to Oregon and
works to improve communities by promoting smart growth, sustainable development
and public transportation. Jules is in a highly contested 4-way primary for the
Oregon House. Help out with Jules' campaign!

- Jim Middaugh, currently Portland City Commissioner Erik Sten’s Chief of Staff, previously worked for Oregon Wild and now sits on the Columbia River Gorge Commission. Jim is a true environmental leader, active on issues from river restoration to renewable energy to pesticide-free parks, and he is running to replace Sten on the Portland City Council. Help out with Jim's campaign!
- Rob Handy is running to oust anti-environment incumbent Bobby Green from the Lane County Commission. Rob was instrumental in saving the Willamette Greenway from being destroyed by a highway and is fighting to save the last of Lane County’s old growth forests. Help out with Rob's campaign!

We are also proud to support a number of proven
environmental champions in their run for re-election or higher office. These candidates include Representative Greg
Macpherson, running for Attorney General; Representatives Jackie Dingfelder and
Diane Rosenbaum, running for the Oregon Senate; and Commissioner Lynn Peterson,
running for the newly-created Clackamas County Commission Chair.

More than Endorsements
In addition to evaluating candidates and issuing endorsements, OLCV volunteers are talking to voters to help elect pro-environment leaders who are facing tough elections. Here are some of the highlights of key May primary battles:
Multnomah County: OLCV’s
Multnomah County Chapter is working overtime to help three exciting candidates
running in Democratic primaries for Oregon House. In addition to helping Jules Kopel-Bailey, we
are working to elect Nick Kahl, who is running for Karen Minnis’ open House
seat and whose primary opponent, Troutdale City Councilor Barbara Kyle, campaigned
against Measure 49.
Multnomah
County volunteers are
also enthusiastically helping get the word out about Jim Middaugh and how he
will bring his much-needed environmental expertise to the Portland City
Commission. Help elect pro-environment candidates in Multnomah County!
Clackamas County: Clackamas County volunteers are talking to their neighbors to help up-and-coming environmental champion Chris Garrett win the House seat being vacated by Greg Macpherson. OLCV volunteers are enthusiastically working to help get Chris elected because we believe he has what it takes to be the next, much needed environmental champion in the Oregon House.
If you haven’t yet met Chris, this excellent video will be a great introduction to
Chris that outlines his experience, his passion, and his priorities to make
Oregon a
healthier place for today’s families, and for future
generations. Help Chris win!
Lane County: Our Lane County Chapter is going all
out to elect Rob Handy and bring a pro-environment majority to the Lane County
Commission. Lane County
volunteers are also working hard to re-elect Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy, who is
facing a tough challenge from former Mayor Jim Torrey. Torrey repeatedly sided against the
environment when he was Mayor, and OLCV successfully worked to defeat him in
2006 when he ran against Senator Vicki Walker. Help Kitty win re-election!
Marion County: OLCV’s
Marion County Chapter is solely focused this spring on helping elect Lloyd
Chapman, who is running to unseat three-term, developer-backed Mayor Janet
Taylor. Lloyd worked as a citizen involvement
specialist with the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development and
later served on the board of the Salem-Keizer Transit District, experience we
need at the helm of Oregon’s
capitol city. Volunteer for change and help Lloyd win!

Help elect the next generation of environmental champions by signing up for one election activity before May 20th.
OLCV's 2008 endorsements
Over the last few months, we have worked hard to identify the candidates
who will work the hardest to keep our air and water clean, protect
Oregon's natural beauty and work responsibly to combat global warming.
We interviewed more than 100 candidates, 73 of whom earned our endorsement. Look for additional endorsements to be forthcoming in the next few months.
