Marion County Progress[ive] Happy Hour

Last Wednesdays every month at the Grand Vines. We meet at 6 pm.

The purpose is not only to celebrate our work to keep Marion County great, but also to provide a unique opportunity for progressive groups and people that share our values to get together, talk, trade ideas and strategize about all things Marion County in a social environment.

Salem's Progressive Film Series
Second Thursdays every month

October's featured film

Washington You're Fired!

“WASHINGTON, YOU’RE FIRED” was born out of sheer frustration with abuses in our current political system and it gives a voice to Americans across the country. Lewis and Abel trailed their way across the States on an expedition to pull together the thoughts and requirements that everyday Americans have for political representatives in Washington, D.C. The results were staggering and their stories are moving.

The Salem Progressive Film Series, a new project initiated by a group of Salem citizens, premiered downtown at the newly remodeled Grand Theater (191 High St NE) last year.

As a monthly event, (2nd Thursday) the series will show a variety of high quality progressive documentaries, followed by brief remarks from knowledgeable speakers and an audience discussion.  According to Cindy Kimball, the series originator, “We wanted to do more than just show a film and go home.  We want to really stimulate Salem's progressive thought…drill down into some important issues and stimulate active personal involvement.  Without connecting with others and getting involved toward intelligent action, it’s just amusement isn’t it?”

Admission is $3.00 (Students with card free).

Doors open at 6:30 for a lobby gathering—“information/meeting fest.”  The films will start at 7:00PM.

For further information or if you are interested in helping to sustain this project, please call Ed Taylor (503-365-9524) or Cindy Kimball (503-588-8713).
