Global warming

Global warming is an urgent and growing crisis that threatens Oregon’s environment and economy in numerous ways. In 2007, Legislators voted to write into state law official goals for reducing Oregon’s contribution of greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere.

Take Action
Tell your legislators to support Oregon’s Healthy Climate Package. Tell them we need a cap on global warming pollution and must fund legislation for responsible transportation options.

Tell the Salem City Council it's time to get in step with voter's values!

Email Mayor Taylor now and encourage her to sign the Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement.

Tell her you want Salem to join the hundreds of cities across the nation, including the 13 other cities in Oregon in taking a stand to curb emissions that are leading to the dangerous warming of our planet.

Urban Growth Management

The Elkhorn Resort
Help protect the Little North Fork and all of Oregon's special places from second home subdivisions masquerading as Destination Resorts.

Send a letter or call your representative and urge them to support destination resort reform.

The original purpose of destination resorts was to bring tourist dollars to rural communities. They've become residential subdivisions across the rural landscape.

Take Action!
In 2009, legislation will be introduced that would reform the Destination Resort Statute to protect special places like the Little North Fork from threats like the one posed by the Elkhorn subdivision.

Contact: Tara Sulzen at 503-497-1000 or tara@friends.org  to find out how.

Transportation

As Salem grows, so will traffic. Marion County OLCV is looking forward to working with local officials to encourage multi-modal transportation, promoting bicycling and walking and improving public transportation.

Congestion inevitably leads to polluted air.  Fortunately, we can work toward responsible transportation solutions that can help keep Salem's air clean and traffic flowing. OLCV Marion County plans to continue to support and help elect candidates that offer innovative and effective solutions to Salem's growing pains.

Email Lloyd Chapman at susanlloyd@peak.org to get involved or learn more.
