Betsy Warriner

25 years ago, Betsy Warriner traveled across the country to make the Northwest her home. She eventually moved to Bend in order to be closer to her family, and promptly fell in love with Central Oregon's mountains, trees, and landscape. The former East Coast-er was impressed that in Oregon, "so much land is saved."

Her affection for Oregon's environment and "the spirit of people in Oregon" drew her to OLCV. Betsy learned about OLCV through a friend, became a member, and then became an active volunteer with our Deschutes County Chapter, even hosting a house party to raise money and support for the chapter.

Betsy's volunteer work is a central part of her life. She is a full time volunteer and director of the non-profit organization Volunteer Insights, which connects students with volunteer opportunities to enhance their learning. Becoming an active volunteer for OLCV was a natural way for her to show her support of OLCV's mission. She enjoys going door-to-door because she gets to meet different kinds of people and have interesting conversations.

While Betsy sees all of the work OLCV does as tied up together, it is OLCV's election work that most resonates with her, especially our work on the Measure 49 campaign. Because she values the landscape and wilderness of Oregon, the outcome of Measure 49 was extremely important to her. "Closest to my heart is having wilderness to wander around in," she says.

Also an avid native gardener, Betsy understands how nature all fits together- plants, birds, everything. Betsy supports OLCV because she kows that electing pro-environment candidates and passing good laws will ensure that the wilderness and landscape she loves to wander in will be preserved: for herself and for future generations of Oregonians. Thank you, Betsy!
