Ashley Miller
Note: Ashley Miller was featured here as a volunteer in 2009, and was hired as an organizer for Deschutes, Jackson and Lane counties in March 2010.
Ashley Miller joined the OLCV Lane County steering committee in December 2008. But it is not her first--or only--volunteer gig.
In fact, Ashley, 26, volunteers a lot. How much? "I should kinda keep track but I don't," she admitted one afternoon on her way to phone bank for the Lane County Bus Project.
Local politics and the environment are both passions, Ashley says. She worked on staff for Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy's 2008 primary campaign, as well as the 2007 Measure 49 campaign.
When she's not doing political work, she might have her sleeves rolled up in the garden. She and her husband just added chickens to their family, which includes a black lab and a calico cat.
The light-hearted laugh that weaves its way through Ashley's sentences make you feel right at home around her. But she is serious when it comes to "preserving what we have here in Oregon."
Originally from Prescott Valley, Arizona, Ashley is especially keen on Oregon's lush forests and ample waters. "It's so green here," she says. "And having beaches that are open-access beaches? That's pretty sweet."
Protection of remaining intact wilderness for its intrinsic value to all living inhabitants is as noble and worthy a goal as any development could possibly be. That's why we support organizations such as OLCV and our political representatives who work hard to protect Oregon's natural legacy.
