New documentary on global warming turns heads
This Thursday, OLCV is hosting a $5 movie benefit. The star of that event, a new, unprecedented documentary about gloabal warming and sustainable living called "Deep Green," is turning some heads.
In last Friday's Oregonian, Stan Hall calls the new documentary "Deep Green" an "assured, informative and aesthetically pleasing debut documentary goes all over the world to show the ingenious solutions being devised right now to get humanity off fossil-fuel consumption and reduce civilization's carbon footprint."
An article about "Deep Green" in the Portland Tribune's June edition of Sustainable Life hails the film's "energy, passion, imagination, funny animated trees and singing Chinese environmentalists." Cliff Newell writes: "Sustainability has to happen, and it has to happen now. But you don’t have to be boring about it."
That's right! We hope you'll join OLCV for a most un-boring event: A $5 movie benefit for OLCV this Thursday, June 24 at 6 pm. at the Bagdd Theater in Portland. Advance ticket purchase is required in order for us to benefit from your presence. (You can do it online here--it's easy!) Proceeds from the 6 p.m. show that day will benefit the Oregon League of Conservation Voters.
More than three years in the making, "Deep Green" is the first major documentary devoted exclusively to showing us how we can “fix” global warming. Local filmmaker Matt Briggs takes us on a compelling journey through nine countries, including China, to uncover cutting-edge technologies and restorative solutions to get the job done. Read a blog post from Matt.
Matt, who will join us at the event to talk about the film, has generously offered to donate the proceeds of this show to support OLCV's work to elect pro-environment candidates and pass environmental safeguards in the legislature to preserve Oregon's natural legacy.
Watch a video clip about solar power from the film.
Then purchase your advance tickets to ensure that OLCV benefits from your presence. See you there!
Protection of remaining intact wilderness for its intrinsic value to all living inhabitants is as noble and worthy a goal as any development could possibly be. That's why we support organizations such as OLCV and our political representatives who work hard to protect Oregon's natural legacy.
