Clastop Recall Decided by Two Voters: Another Reminder that Your Vote Counts

This week we're seeing another critical election come down to a razor-thin margin: the recall of Clastop County Commissioner Ann Samuelson is currently passing, by a 1,013 to 1,009 count. Samuelson had come under fire in part due to her actions supporting the Bradwood Landing LNG facilty.

While OLCV didn't take a position on the recall election that closed Tuesday, it's another example of how close elections can be. Thousands of people voted. But if just two of those people who voted "yes" changed their votes to "no" the recall would fail. Or if just four of the 4142 registered voters who didn't vote showed up to vote "no" the recall would have failed.

There are a couple of outstanding ballots, and an automatic recount will occur given the closeness of the results. Commissioner Jeff Hazen survived a recall attempt of him by a 56-44% margin.
