Brian Out! Change at the top coming for Washington County
Big news coming from Washington County with the announcement of the Board of Commissioners Chair Tom Brian announcing that he will not seek re-election to his post atop the county board. Here's the story in the Oregonian.
No doubt this race will have huge implications for land-use planning, transportation and natural resource protection in Washington County and across the region. One only needs to look at the recent planning efforts to see that it is time for a changing of the guard in this position.
While no candidates have announced in the last few hours, there is sure to be a bevy waiting to take the lead and chart a new path to the future for Washington County. OLCV will be watching out for the one that wants to chart the green and sustainable path there and I will keep you up to date as candidates begin to announce.
In the meantime, there is a great chance you will get to talk to several of those candidates, maybe even before they announce, at the 2010 Washington County OLCV Campaign Kick-Off and Silent Auction. Click here for all the details and to RSVP!
Protection of remaining intact wilderness for its intrinsic value to all living inhabitants is as noble and worthy a goal as any development could possibly be. That's why we support organizations such as OLCV and our political representatives who work hard to protect Oregon's natural legacy.

You've left out Dick Schouten, whose support of farmland protection and other conservation values during the Reserves process should make him an obvious choice for OLCV's endorsement.
Thanks for the update Brian, I haven't had a chance to get back to this in a bit so the information is much appreciated. OLCV has proudly supported Commissioner Schouten in his past races and is always pleased with his work and committment to conservation values.
Update:*****Update*****
While checking out the Washington County Elections website it looks like Andy Duyk, who earlier this year decided to not seek re-election for his own seat on the commission, has filed by prospective petition. If you don't know Andy Duyk represents most the rural portions of Washignton County, Forest Grove, Cornelious, and portions of Hillsboro. Two have filed to fill that position Former Forest Grove Mayor Richard Kidd and Bob Terry.
Also filed for the Chair position is Doak Schulte from the Beaverton area.
The rumor mill is definately generating quite a few other names as potential candidates, but will wait to those are a little more confirmed before putting the here.
In a related update - 2 have filed for position 2 on the Washington County Board currently held by Desari Strader. The candidates are Mike Niehuser and Andy Miller.
